Recently there has been interest in increasing AIGA Memphis' community involvement or building the integrity of Memphis. We are open to any suggestions and ideas on how our members want to get involved with "stuff like Red Cross, St. Jude and more" (posted in How can AIGA Memphis better serve you).
Please feel free to offer suggestions in this thread and items posted will be discussed at our monthly board meetings.

Post a CommentThe following text is from a school project that I’ve been working on that required the creation of a non-profit organization, a logo for the organization, and a brochure. Thought it might be a relevant suggestion. I have no idea if it is actually possible to execute.
“Primary Care is a non-profit organization led by AIGA volunteers to organize the recycling of used paper and design materials through public elementary school art programs. Our objective is to insure that no designer is “left behind.â€ Primary Care was created to assist emerging elementary artists and college design students through their interaction with professional designers concerned with the future of design.”
“As designers, we produce a sizeable amount of waste. All of our draft prints go straight to the trash. We frequently shed large stacks of books, trade magazines, and promotional materials. Even if we participate in waste recycling programs, we need to realize that there is another round of expressive potential left in our discarded supplies. What if these items we thoughtlessly discard might open a child’s eyes to the wonderful world of graphic design?
Budget cuts have passed on the responsibility of purchasing school art supplies to students who might not be able to afford them. Often art teachers must spend money from their terribly insufficient paychecks to nurture the future of our industry.
Through our database, we connect primary schools in need, design students offering to transport goods, and designers willing to donate their creative byproducts.”
